The medium speaks volumes before the painting even begins: recycled, rough cardboard, with its standard kraft brown print – the same material used to package flat-pack shelves and tables. On it, Griezmann in Atlético's red and white jersey, back turned, fist raised, in an instantly recognizable celebration.
The figure is rendered in full color and with a high level of detail – the striped sleeve, the name on the back, the blue-grey dyed hair – while the lower part dissolves into drips of red paint that expose the cardboard.
There is no painted background: the kraft is the background, and its industrial texture transforms a work of art into something that could have come from a warehouse at the Metropolitano.
The choice of medium is deliberate. In a market saturated with reproductions on premium canvas, painting on the most ordinary material possible is a statement: what gives value is the hand, not the medium.
