This unique work by Martín Redondo (Melonkicks) is entirely hand-painted on a Nike Brazil national team shirt from an exclusive limited-edition series released in 2008.
Of the only 2,008 shirts produced, the artist has transformed example 0235/2008, in size L and bearing the iconic number 10.
Against Brazil’s unmistakable yellow, Melonkicks portrays Ronaldinho during his appearance at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, capturing the expression, movement and distinctive presence of one of Brazilian football’s most iconic figures.
The player appears at the centre of the shirt alongside the ball, seamlessly integrated with the original number and turning the garment itself into an essential part of the composition.
The choice of medium gives the work an additional dimension. This is not a conventional canvas, but a shirt originally created as a special-edition Nike release, featuring technical fabric, a green collar, the CBF crest with its five stars, original manufacturing details and the internal “Limited Edition 0235/2008” label.
Inside the collar, the Portuguese motto “Nascido para jogar futebol” can also be read, a detail that further reinforces the narrative character of the piece.
Every brushstroke has been applied directly to the fabric, making this shirt an entirely one-of-a-kind piece: the convergence of a historic limited edition and an original artistic intervention.
